Shibari Neural Mobility

We’ve observed during our classes that some participants are experiencing symptoms that make practicing shibari more challenging. | Reading time: 10 minutes

Specifically, some have reported tingling sensations in their hands after simple movements, as well as mobility issues—both occurring without any obvious underlying cause.

After conducting some research, we’ve found that certain nerve-related conditions might be contributing to these difficulties.

Once pre-existing medical conditions have been ruled out, the following issues could be at play:

  • Restricted nerve mobility: This occurs when a nerve doesn’t glide smoothly due to adhesions, scar tissue, or inflammation, which can result in stiffness or discomfort during movement.
  • Nerve compression syndrome: This happens when a nerve becomes pinched or trapped by nearby structures such as bones, muscles, tendons, or scar tissue, interfering with its normal function. A common example is carpal tunnel syndrome.

We want to emphasize the importance of consulting a healthcare professional for any health-related concerns.
