Make Shibari Accessible For Everyone

Adding "erotic" to the style of shibari we teach might raise a few eyebrows for newcomers. That's perfectly understandable, since erotica is fundamentally about privacy and intimacy.

Indeed, shibari has roots in Japan’s adult industry, but it has evolved far beyond that, now appearing in the West in various forms — from pure art and acrobatics to self-reflective relaxation, or straightforward erotic experiences.

In this section, we clarify the distinction between adult entertainment content and a technique for nurturing an erotic bond between consenting adults.

Sekibaku is the shibari style of Yagami Ryu.

It offers a distinct way of understanding, learning, and practicing shibari — one centered on exploring the erotic desire of both people equally: the person tying and the person being tied.

As a shibari style, sekibaku aims to explore and uncover the erotic desires of all participants.

One distinctive feature is that both sides are on equal footing, with the same importance in the practice. No one is just a passive receiver—both participants actively engage in the shibari.

Yagami Ryu (鵺神流) is the shibari school created by Japanese rigger Yagami Ren, dedicated to teaching and passing on his personal approach to sekibaku.

Ryuan is a Spanish shibari and kinbaku professional with over two decades of experience, a certified instructor of Yagami Ryu, and director of Gijón Shibari Dojo since 2005.

One of the most recognized figures in the Spanish-speaking rope community, his work combines technical rigor, scientific grounding, and a teaching approach refined through years of practice, training, and instruction.
