In Yagami Ryu, there are two ways to apply technique: the fluid mode (Toginawa Keitou - 伽縄 系統) and the strict mode (Shoden Keitou - 初傳 系統).

Beyond personal preferences or tastes, it is essential to be proficient in both modes and able to combine them within the same session.

These "modes of application" do not refer to the roughness, strength, or physical pressure used when applying the ropes or tying, but rather to the mindset with which the person tying manages the session.

To better understand this, let's review some fundamental concepts that define shibari in Yagami Ryu.

In this context, we refer to the style of shibari as SEKIBAKU, a term that can be loosely translated as "tying short," meaning to maintain control.

At the same time, the Japanese expression places the responsibility for this control on the person tying.

We close this article by returning to one of the defining characteristics of Yagami Ryu: adaptability.

The person tying, as the one receiving the resources and control, must continuously adapt, modulating the application of technique and shifting between fluid and strict modes as needed.

This is the key to ensuring that both participants in the shibari experience find satisfaction and share an enriching encounter.
